MERA PEAK EXPEDITION
Mera Peak, standing 21,247 ft (6,676 m) tall, located south of Mount Everest is categorized as a trekking peak. It is one of the highest and most popular trekking peaks. The summit of Mera Peak offers panoramic views of five of six 8000 meter peaks which include Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho-oyu, Kanchang junga and more.
Due to the technical simplicity of the mountain, there are several different routes to the summit. Jimmy Roberts and Sir Tenzing were the first to ascend Mera peak in 1953. However, the athletes and climbers following them were only able to overcome the southern and northern slopes of Mera Peak. But the most difficult central peak was conquered only in 2001.
Following a much less frequented trail than the Everest Base Camp route, we cross a spectacular pass into the almost uninhabited Hinku Valley and then trek northward to approach Mera Peak. Whether you want to attempt the summit or just go along for the trek, you will feel as though you have taken part in a real Himalayan expedition. Mera peak is one of the few Himalayan climbs that can be done in three weeks. Those who opt for the trek only can reach up to 18,000 ft. Please note that the lodges are basic and do not have the level of accommodation found in more populated parts of the Khumbu. We will lodge in simple tea houses and tents. Khangri Experience will also bring supplementary food for the trek and High Camp.
