AMA DABLAM EXPEDITION
Ama Dablam is one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, often compared to the Matterhorn due to the beauty of its line. Ama dablam (4478m) begins where Matterhorn ends (4600m). Ama Dablam in literal sense means “mother’s necklace”. High from the Southwest face, a hanging glacier of Ama Dablam looks like the sacred ornament box worn by ladies in the Sherpa community; Dablam. The mountain is on the trail to Everest, in the heart of the Khumbu valley, home of a large sherpa community. The climb is amazing and follows the spectacular southwest ridge, which is the route used by all commercial expedition operators and was also the same route used to climb in 1961. Ama Dablam offers a significant challenge with both very interesting rock and ice climbing in a very steep environment. It is a climb that not only rewards climbers with its technical challenge but also its panoramic views of the Everest, Lhotse, Baruntshe, Makalu, Cho Oyu and a multitude of other peaks. One should train with rock and ice climbing before undertaking Ama Dablam.
The climb to camp one is moderate. Camp one to two exposes narrow rock ridge and face of multiple pitches, as we make our way through the classic yellow tower. From camp two to three, there is mixed rock and ice terrain up to 70 degrees traversing mushroom ridge. Using fixed line and ascender for assistance, the final climb will ease off bit with moderate snow and ice slope along the side of the hennaing glacier “Dablam” the jewel box.
We will climb Island peak “Imja Tse” before Ama Dablam to acclimatize, giving you the opportunity to climb two of the most beautiful peaks in the Himalayan range.
